Christian Dior Brand Profile

Christian Dior was born in France on 21st, January 1905, and was a man well-known for his innovation. Coming from a household which dealt with producing chemicals as well as fertilizers, he streamed right in the opposite direction but quite successfully producing a name for himself in the fashion fraternity that conferred him a lot of accolades in support of his imaginative manner of dealing with clothes. He was a master of his trade leaving no loose ends to grumble about. While his style was different from the standard, it was this distinctiveness that gave him an impetus to make his concepts viable worldwide. He had brought with his designs a revolution in women's clothes once again making Paris as a centre of the fashion trade.

Christian Dior was an influential style designer and the originator of the Doir Empire. He attended the Ecole des Sciences Politiques to comply with his parent's requests. Though his parents wished that he would become a diplomat, much to their amazement their child was more interested in art rather than being a diplomat. To make money he used to sell his fashion sketches at 10 cents apiece. He opened a tiny art gallery in 1928 using the money he received from his father. However owing to the family's financial disaster he was forced to close his gallery and worked with Robert Piguet who soon after joined the fashion house where he and Pierre Balmain had been the principal designers. In 1945 he went into business for himself, backed by Marcel Boussac, the cotton-fabric magnate. He opened his own fashion house in 1946 and showed his initial collection by the name "Corolle" which popularly gained the name New Look. Celebrated for the sensual looks given to his clothing, he was a master in making shapes and silhouettes. He passed away on October 23rd, 1957.

After his initial design, which had previously ensured his position in the global forum of fashion, his subsequent creations also made a significant impact on the ramp. The H-line in 1954 and the A-line in 1955 grew to become as popular as the original one and people started to look upto him as a man of inspiration. The business expanded not only in terms of stores but also ventured into further forums. After his decease his company was handled by his grand daughter who made the company reach new heights. The brand also comprises of Baby Dior products.
